Pets Flea Medication
Flea control needs to involve a two tier approach.
The control of fleas on the pet.
The control of fleas within the environment.
Flea control treatments on the pet are diverse and plentiful from
frontline, Advantage, Program, flea collars, dips and Spot Ons. Spot Ons,
Advantage and Frontline are monthly treatments in topical form, Program is a
monthly treatment given to the pet orally. Without question, the monthly
flea control treatments provide the best results and WILL kill the fleas.
The other flea control methods such as collars etc will work for short periods
of time but are not enough to break the cycle of the tick or flea.
Organic flea control treatments which contain garlic, diatomaceous earth or
orange oil etc will provide short term relief.
Flea control treatments within the environment, whether indoors or out, is
the second step in flea control. The indoor tick or flea usually involves
carpeting, pet bedding and/or furniture as a location for the developing fleas.
If your pets bedding seems to be the source of fleas, wash regularly in hot soapy
water using a hot air dry cycle. If your carpets look suspect, vacuum thoroughly
every day, ensuring to empty the vacuum or bag daily. Carpet dusts etc can also
be used along with sprays.
