FLEA CONTROL PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
"PREVENTION not CURE is the best approach to flea control".
You could eliminate around 50 percent of flea eggs in a single pass with a
vacuum. Vacuuming can provide a certain level of control at the pupal stage as
some widely used synthetic pesticides can. You should vacuum your
carpets at least once a week or every day during peak flea
season, usually Spring to Autumn, remembering to clean underneath sofas and chairs.
Your pet bedding should be washed on a regular basis. The vacuum bag should be replaced
immediately after vacumming and disposed of in an outdoor trash container.
Flea combs can be another preventive method for controlling mild infestations of
adult fleas. These combs have tightly spaced teeth which you should
regularly comb your pet with, which in turn will out the fleas
and their manure, this can serve as food for their larvae, but will still allow the
hair to pass through. Constantly dip the comb into soapy water to dislodge and drown
the fleas. You will probably find that pets usually enjoy the extra attention, and by
combing regularly, you will have some idea of the flea population and use Flea Control
Preventive repellants which are sold in safe liquid form if the numbers of fleas begin to swell.
In the outdoors, fleas can be highly susceptible to fluctuations in temperature
and moisture. They prefer damp environments, fleas can be found most
often in moist shaded areas like under porches and around dog kennels. By using effective
Flea control products like, Frontline and Advantage you will be sure that all fleas will be
killed and the liquid will continue performing to prevent further infestation on your pet.
